60th Suprise!

This weekend Grigoria, Maria and I flew to Madrid to celebrate their Dad's 60th Birthday.
For months now they have been plotting to surprise him and despite a couple of close shaves they managed to keep the secret! Needless to say, their father could not believe his eyes when he opened the door with us sitting on the floor in front of him!
On Friday night for the birthday dinner we had reserved a table at El Buey (http://www.restauranteelbuey.com/), a traditional Spanish restaurant where you order a dish of cut meat and cook it yourself on specially heated plates. As always there was too much food and the mood was decidedly merry by the time we got home!
Saturday was dedicated to shopping. Maria, Grigoria and their Mum made tireless efforts to support the Spanish economy whereas their dad & I spent the day commenting on how nice they looked in their new clothes and trying to look awake!
Sunday morning was a lot less hectic. Having packed our things ready for the airport we headed to the heart of Madrid for some 'Churros' and hot chocolate!
The weather throughout the weekend has been glorious which made our return to rainy London even harder!
