A Day at the Market.....

Today we decided to show Mum & Dad one of our favourite places in London……Borough Market!

Borough Market is one the nicest places in the city to buy fresh good quality fruit, veggies, breads, cheeses, fish and preservatives directly from the growers / producers.

Therefore as we made our way around we selected some goodies for a nice riverside lunch later on.

After the food (somehow) disappeared we walked along the south bank towards the Tate Modern gallery, across the (once wobbly) Millennium Bridge towards St Paul’s Cathedral.

From St Paul’s we took Mum & Dad past some of the famous sites along Fleet street, the Strand, Trafalgar, Whitehall, Westminster and then on towards Hyde Park for a well deserved ice cream and rest in a shelter.

A good day with some great food and time with Mum & Dad.

Mum & Dad Arrive in London...

Tonight Mum & Dad (Gray) arrived in London from their two week canal boat trip in France; although a little tired from a disrupted and delayed flight we were very pleased to see them.

After a quick cab ride to our flat, we started catching up on their travel news & stories over a nice meal.

They showed us some of the nice goodies which they'd purchased at the local French village markets and gave us a gift from Janine, Paul & Jamie (the London premier of Jamie’s movie will take place tonight!).

For the inside scoop on Mum & Dad’s adventures in the UK please keep tuned….

Kelly & Chris Wedding...

This weekend Blair and I attended the wedding of my friend Kelly and her fiancé Chris.

The wedding took place at the Runnymead Hotel (http://www.runnymedehotel.com/), which is 30mins outside London on a lovely location next to the river Thames.

After running a few chores on Saturday morning (Blair did some grocery shopping and I had my nails done!)
we caught the train from Putney to Staines and then a cab to the hotel.
Although the actual building itself is nothing to write home about the hotel facilities and the location were excellent.

After checking into our room we took a stroll in the grounds but got back just in time to get ready for the wedding and avoid the rain!

The wedding started with the civil ceremony at 2pm and Kelly looked absolutely gorgeous!

This was followed by a Champagne reception and photographs on the terrace, the rain had thankfully stopped by then.

Once that was done it was time for the wedding breakfast and the speeches.
The food was amazing and the speeches hilarious, even Blair who didn’t know either Kelly or Chris could not stop laughing!

A small break afterward (enough time for me to descent from the dizzy heights of my shoes!) and then it was time to dance the night away.

Sunday morning was a bit more relaxed. We had breakfast overlooking the river and then played a quick game of giant chess (I won!!!) before it was time to check out of our room and return home to London.

Tennis Anyone.....

Like last year we had a residence free ticket to the Stella Artois Tennis Championships http://www.artoischampionships.com/1/home/default.asp and also like last year as soon as the lawn tennis season arrived so did the rain!

Unfortunately as keen as we were to see some summer evening tennis, by the time we sat down after queuing for ten minutes for the Hewitt / Henman doubles match it starting spitting.

The umpire then announced that play would be suspended for the day due to the slick grass and it was all over at 2-1 to Hewitt / Henman.

So we headed for the shop and trawled through some old Wimbledon programme booklets of the 70’s – 80’s days before heading home a little disappointed…maybe next year it won’t rain…
